Transport, from Pittsburgh to Nagoya
[Regarding the concept of the work, a part of installation in the exhibition had been slightly changed every day.]
Installation view: Ellis Gallery, Pittsburgh, USA (no.1-5); Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Nagoya, Zone Gallery, Nagoya, Japan (no.6,7)
Photo: exhibition's view, Pittsburgh airport, the bus in Pittsburgh, the underground in Nagoya
Reflecting on my approach, it seems important to note that I began making art in Japan in 1995. As part of my studies I participated in a foreign exchange programme in Pittsburgh, U.S.A. I brought the works "Bags" to different places where the paths of people from various countries intersect. At public transportation, airport, bus, teeming with passengers, each with their own subjective experience of time, language and nationality, seems to question the space and passenger’s identity.
